Pompeii, Italy
My alarm went off bright and early at 6:30 am! And by alarm clock I mean Uncle Ken singing and banging on the door. However, my usual morning grumpy mood was quickly turned around the moment I rounded the corner to see the delicious breakfast spread. Uncle Ken and Tita Maria had put out fresh scones fresh out the oven, with butter and jam and then fresh fruit and yogurt. It's the little things.
The early wake up call was imperative because we had a bus to catch to Pompeii and Naples! Mo and I arrived at the train station to load the bus, where we had planned to meet with our other friends. We arrived promptly 10 minutes before departure, however our friends were no where to be found. *yikes*
The bus was pulling away when we discovered that there was another bus going to Pompeii that we were just hoping our friends were on. Thankfully when we arrived in Naples, our buses overlapped and we saw that our friends had made it on — our friends were also equally relieved to find out that we had made it on the bus too! Our stop in Naples was quick but beautiful!
We had a bus tour of the city and got to take pictures along the coast. Our tour took us to Pompeii, where our first stop was to a restaurant for a three course meal of pizza, pasta and fish! Good thing we had a two hour walking tour of Pompeii to work it all off! Pompeii was unbelievable. Our tour was really interesting and our guide showed us what each structure used to be. It was fascinating to learn about Pompeii's history and to learn about this once thriving civilization.
After a full, long and exhausting day of traveling it was only natural that we go out. What's that phrase....When in Rome? Our group explored down to the Tiber River to check out all the bars and restaurants that line the river bank. It was like a fair down the whole river! There were games, shops, slushies, and dancing! Time was just flying by as we were laughing, socializing and bonding over drinks! The Romans sure know how to party, because we all looked down at our watches to see it was past 2 AM! "Doing as the Romans do" was hard! We called it a night and said goodbye to the awesome late night ambiance that was the Tiber River.
Sunday: was a lazy day! I needed a day to recharge and recoup from a late night out! However, my day was jump started with a morning trip to the Roman market. Mo & I browsed the streets of the flea market and I got some awesome finds! Venturing around the city Mo & I got lost and found ourselves in the center of the city. I’m beginning to accept “getting lost” because it just means I get to see something new and unexpected. I've come to view each getting lost as a blessing in disguise because it only brings me a new adventure. :) My apologies for late blogs this weekend and apologies in advance for late blogs this week. With the end of my study abroad program fast approaching, you know that it was only responsible for me to have left all my work for this last week….Ciao!
