Hiking Around SLC, Utah

This post will be frequently updated and will serve as my running journal of all the hikes we do around our new home!

1.Waterfall Canyon Hike (9.5.20 + 10.8.20) - Ogden, UT

One of our favorite hikes for 3 reasons: close to home, challenging workout, and great views!

The hike is 2.5 miles with a 1,105 ft elevation gain. The trail ends with a waterfall —which right now is pretty sad and dried up. However, the view looking into the valley from the other side is beautiful!

2. Adam’s Canyon + Waterfall (9.13.20 + 10.14.20) - Layton, UT

John and Scotty at the waterfall!

This is a 3.8 mile hike and is pretty difficult due to the elevation gain (1,430 feet). Be cautious of the rock scramble at various points. There are incredible views throughout the hike and the ending waterfall is magnificent (even at this time of year)!!

3. Buffalo Point Trail + Gravel Pit Trail (9.19.20 + 10.23.12) - Antelope Island, Syracuse, Ut

This is an easy 0.5 hike to the top and you get incredible 360 views of the Great Salt Lake, Farmington Bay, and Antelope Island.

4. Jardine Juniper Trailhead - (10.2.20) - Logan Canyon - Cache National Forest, UT

The best place to see fall colors!

This is a long 10+ mile hike, but Gina and I only did about 3 miles up and then headed back. The path was smooth, not too many rocks, and the incline was gradual. The views of the colorful trees were incredible!

5. Willow Lake Trail (10.24.20) - Big Cottonwood Canyon, UT

IMG_5548.jpg

This was an easy/moderate 2.75 mile hike. The first 0.75 miles is a steep incline, but then the trail levels out and opens up to a lake. At this time of year, the lake was pretty small and dried up. Kind of underwhelming, but still enjoyable!

6. Limber Pine Nature Trail (10.3.20) - Logan, Ut

Short easy 1.4 mile hike near Bear Lake

This was a pleasant walk; Gina and I enjoyed walking among the tall pine trees. However, we thought it was much longer, so we were quite underwhelmed when we got back to the car in under 25 mins.

7. Taylor Canyon (9.10.20) - Ogden, UT

Hiked this with the Utah locals, Molly and Alana!

This is a 3.4 mile hike, that just went just up, up, up! This was one of my first hikes in Utah, so I was out of breath and not used to the dry air or elevation. Alana and Molly were hardly phased by the incline and barely broke a sweat (…meanwhile, I’m in the back dripping)!!

8. Malan’s Peak (9.22.20) - Ogden, UT

IMG_3954.jpg

This was a moderate 4.5 out-and-back trail, that ends with an amazing view of the Ogden and surrounding canyons.

The trail is pretty steep and has some rock scramble to it. Steph and I took our sweet time on the way down. We definitely earned our Lucky Slice pizza after this!

9. West Haven Trail + 21st St Pond Trail (10.10.20) - West Haven, UT

IMG_5022.jpg

Fun, easy walking + running trail in our neighborhood.

This trail follows the river and splits off to meet the 21st street pond. The path circles the entire pond and is 1.2 miles all the way around. The path is paved, so it’s a perfect for biking or running.
